4 simple ways to help the environment11/04/2014
by Kira Walton
Since April is Earth Month (and Earth Day is on April 22nd in case you’re wondering), we wanted to tell you about our continuous efforts to be green and also show you how you can help our planet to stay green too.
Just as Mother Nature intended
Here at VOYA, Mother Nature provides us with everything we need! And we’re not just talking about our seaweed! While we are big believers in the green stuff, VOYA is so much more than just seaweed!
Mother Nature provides us with many different ingredients which go into our wonderful skincare products. We source ingredients from around the globe and together they make up a special recipe to help keep you feeling and looking young and healthy. You might be surprised at how far we travel to find only the best, and most importantly organic, ingredients. Here’s a list of some of our favourite organic essential oils:
4 ways you can help the environment
Since we feel our planet has been so good to us, we feel we need to give a little back. Here’s how you can too…
1. Recycle Seaweed & compost
After you enjoy your Lazy Days seaweed bath, shake the seaweed out and place it in a large bowl or bucket. You can use the same seaweed for 3 consecutive days allowing you to enjoy 3 detoxifying seaweed baths.
Here’s the best bit: after you have finished using your seaweed you can recycle it by using it as a garden fertiliser. Seaweed is packed full of vitamins and minerals that are great for growing vegetables in your garden.
If you don’t have a vegetable plot, why not give back to the planet by composting waste like peels, apple cores, weeds and other compostable items? Your Lazy Days seaweed bath can go in here too. Here at VOYA, Mick Walton uses seaweed to grow his award-winning vegetables.
2. Rethink your beauty buys
Green beauty products still have a long way to come, but a lot of brands have made good progress in the last number of years. While the word ‘natural’ can sometimes be misleading, truly green beauty brands are now seeking to be certified by recognised organic bodies such as the Soil Association, which we spoke about in a previous blog.
When you buy products certified by the Soil Association you are supporting organic farmers around the world. You are also supporting animal welfare and wildlife conservation whilst ensuring that the product you buy doesn’t contain GM ingredients. Again this is a win-win for you and the planet.
3. Buy eco-friendly packaging
Teen Vogue this month stress the importance of buying products made from eco-friendly packaging. Here at VOYA we print on paper which has been sourced from responsibly managed forests and we use vegetable and soy inks for our packaging. Our Balmelicious Lip Balm packaging may look like plastic, but it is in fact made from Corn Starch and is completely compostable! If you don’t believe us take it from the experts! Lipsticks can also contain lead (apparently we can eat up to 9lbs in a lifetime of lipstick) so why not swop your lippy for some Balmelicious!
4. Switch to green energy
We recently made our company even greener by switching to 100% renewable energy with Electric Ireland. The electricity we use is from 100% renewable sources, such as wind and hydro in keeping with our natural product offering and company ethos. The Waltons said of the Electric Ireland initiative:
“As a company the environment and energy efficiency are high on our agenda. We work hard on our carbon footprint, and try to be environmentally aware in everything we do including recycling our seaweed and using only biodegradable plastic.”
Working together to help the environment
We hope you can support us, and join us, in our green efforts. We can all play our part, whether it’s recycling, composting or even doing simple things like spending less time in the shower, not leaving the tap running and organising our waste.
