5 Reasons We LOVE Aloe Vera06/03/2014
by Kira Walton
Here at VOYA we love Aloe Vera. Most of us know Aloe Vera as a way to take the sting out of sunburns: we are likely to have used it after one too many hours at the beach. But did you know that the benefits of Aloe Vera are not limited to repairing sunburnt skin?
Aloe Vera has so many more health and beauty benefits that it is hard to believe more people don’t use it as part of their daily health and beauty routine.
About Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a type of plant species found in cultivation; no known Aloe Vera plants grow naturally. It is a plant that is generally very easy to maintain and very adaptable: Aloe Vera can thrive in a variety of environments. It can be used by breaking open the leaves and using the Aloe Vera gel that is inside.
Health Benefits of Aloe Vera
When ingested, Aloe Vera juice improves the inner workings of your body. The ancient Sumerians used the Aloe plant to offset the toxic effects of eating spoiled food. Aloe Vera juice/gel contains a large number of essential vitamins and minerals that are not found in any other plant. One such vitamin is B12 which is important for keeping nerve cells and red blood cells healthy. Aloe Vera juice also aids healthy digestion and is thought to be very beneficial to the immune system.
1. Aloe Vera is a natural healer
Perhaps most well-known is the Aloe plant’s ability to repair and soothe skin that has been damaged by burns. But, while sunburns are one of the most common ailments, Aloe Vera can also be used to treat burns from lighters, stoves, firecrackers, etc. Most recently, scientists have been looking into Aloe Vera’s ability to treat radiation burns. The gel can also be used for pain relief and feels cool and soothing on the affected skin.

2. Anti-aging properties:
We love the Anti-aging properties of Aloe Vera. In fact, the Egyptians called Aloe “The plant of immortality” because of its ability to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. In nature, a damaged Aloe leaf seals itself over very quickly with a protective film to prevent water loss. It is thought that in a short time, damage to the leaf is repaired completely. This is the process that can be replicated in human skin cells by the application of skin care products containing Aloe Vera gel.
3. Aloe Vera improves the appearance of Acne
We don’t know about you but we’re still getting spots and pimples and we’re not teenagers anymore! Products containing Aloe Vera are known to prevent pimples and can sooth the appearance of acne. They can also prevent the appearance of stretch marks and can improve blotched skin by decreasing inflammation.
4. Fights against cellulite
We spoke in a previous blog about how seaweed is a superhero in the fight against cellulite. Both when ingested and applied to the skin, Aloe Vera can also help minimise the appearance of cellulite. According to the Daily Mail, when ingested, Aloe Vera gel has blood-fat and blood-sugar fighting qualities so the same should apply to skin when it is applied as a cream. It has also been successfully tested on people with leg ulcers, which might suggest it improves circulation.
VOYA products containing Aloe Vera
The beauty product line developed by VOYA contains several products with Aloe Vera. The variety we use is Aloe Barbadensis Miller. We believe it contains the most beneficial properties of all the varieties. Whole leaves are selected by hand and nothing but the purest of concentrated Aloe Vera gel is extracted for use in our products. These products can help preserve skin elasticity (which keeps it looking young and healthy); help skin retain suppleness; moisturize the skin; and leave it feeling – as well as looking – refreshed. In fact, the role Aloe Vera plays in beauty helps make it one of VOYA’s most important organic ingredients. You can find more information on our ingredients here.
