5 ways to get thicker hair naturally08/04/2015
You can try product after product that promises that you will instantly get thicker hair, but chances are they will never give you the voluminous results of the model on the TV commercial.
But there is a natural solution. Organic hair-care will not only offer you better, bigger results, it won’t damage your hair as much. Follow our top five tips achieving thicker hair, the natural way!
1. Let your hair air dry as much as possible
If you’ve got the time, letting your hair air dry is far preferable to applying a ton of heat by blow-drying it. Your hairdresser may have promised blow-drying with your round brush would bring you instant volume but over time, over-stretching the hair shaft while drying it takes away your hair’s elasticity and natural volume.
So even if your blow dry looks great in the short-term, eventually you’re going to end up with almost permanently flat hair. Air-drying is a natural hair care approach that should allow you take advantage of your hair’s natural texture and volume.
2. Dry your hair upside down
It’s a pretty simple trick, but on days when you do have to bring the blow dryer into action make sure you use it correctly. Opt for a cool setting to minimise the heat damage done to your hair, and then flip your head upside down to dry roughly.
This will take most of the wet out of it and then you can style as normal with your round brush. It creates natural volume, making your hair look thicker and fuller, without the damage caused by pulling at it with brushes while it’s wet.
3. Avoid ammonium lauryl sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate shampoos
It can be hard to remember the names of the chemicals to look for and avoid in hair products when you’re just zipping through the shops.
Ammonium lauryl sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate are the baddies you really need to remember, however. Both of these make the shampoo feel thicker in your hand and offer you a better lather, but at the expense of your hair and scalp’s natural oils. This can leave you with dry, limp hair.
Choosing organic or natural haircare products means you won’t have to check the bottles. Our new Silky By Nature shampoo, allows you to avoid these harsh chemicals and the seaweed extracts deeply moisturise for healthier, thicker looking hair.
4. Chop your locks
A lot of the time, thin hair can be saved from looking dull and limp simply by changing up your cut. If you want thicker looking hair, the first thing you have to sacrifice is the length, as hair is heavier and more weighed down by long lengths.
Stick to medium or short styles if possible, and have your hairdresser avoid over-layering, which can make your hair look extremely thin at the ends.
5. Avoid coconut oil!
Coconut oil is all the rage for bumping up moisture and shine levels in hair. While it is an organic hair care solution, it’s not the one for thin hair, we’re afraid. It’s a coating that will sit on top of your hair, which will add a ton of shine, but also weigh your hair down quite a bit. You’ll end up with tons on build up which will end up actually making your hair look thinner than ever.
If moisture and shine are your concerns, you’re better off opting for a natural conditioner, like our new Forget Me Knot conditioner, which has seaweed, olive leaf and avocado oil extracts to keep your hair in tip top shape.
