7 Natural Skincare Resolutions to Keep09/01/2015
Wouldn’t it be great to wake up on Jan 1st 2015 looking 5 years younger than you do today? It can be done, and we don’t mean by spending thousands at the plastic surgeons! Use these seven simple tips along with some good quality natural skincare and you’ll look and feel the benefit.
1. Don’t forget to moisturise your body after every shower
Keep a bottle of our Angelicus Serratus Body Oil and our Softly Does It body lotion in your bathroom so that you don’t forget to moisturise after showering. Aim to apply them within ten minutes of getting out of the shower when the skin is still damp so that the skin doesn’t lose the water vapour you’d like to lock in. Apply the body oil first followed by Softly Does it, as this will lock in the moisture of the oil and provide a luxury double layering effect.
2. Say goodbye to chemicals for good
This year, do your skin a favour and cut out nasty chemical-based beauty products for good. Your skin’s texture and health will improve immediately. If you choose the right natural products to use instead, your skin will begin to detoxify itself of all the harmful residue chemical-based products have left behind.
If you feel guilty about wasting products you received as Christmas presents, re-gift or donate them. If you’ve already opened a product, use it up and just don’t re-purchase.
3. Show your make-up brushes some love
You cleanse your face once or twice a day to keep it healthy, right? Well shouldn’t you cleanse your make-up brushes too? It defeats the purpose of looking after your skin only to touch it with dirty, unhygienic make-up brushes every morning.
The bristles of dirty brushes are also more likely to snap with the weight of product and debris build-up. To clean them, use a gentle soap like our invigorating seaweed soap with warm water to create a soft lather.
Simple swirl your brushes around on the palm of your soapy hand, rinse, reshape the bristles and leave laid out on a towel to dry. Make-up artists recommend doing this once a week, paying particular attention to your foundation and powder brushes.
4. Exfoliate 1-2 times a week
“A baby’s skin replenishes itself completely every 14 days,” explains Howard Sobel, dermatologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. “But by age 30, an adult takes a full 28 days to replenish.” In that time, the skins cells dry out and lose their vitality unless you help the process along by using a gentle exfoliant the skin.
For the body, try our Time To Shine Body Buff which is made of finely ground walnut shells as well as a range of organic oils to reveal healthy new skin cells. When exfoliating the face, use our award-winning Love a Scrub. Its gentle formula is ideal for even sensitive, problematic skin.
5. Stop sleeping in your make-up
It’s surprising how many women still go to bed without removing their make-up. If you are one of them, make it a new year’s skincare resolution to stop.
By falling asleep with your make-up on, you are not only allowing your make-up to sink deep into your pores, but you’re also allowing the day’s dirt and grime to sink in also. Think bus exhausts, cigarette smoke and chimney soot. If these things can leave a smell or stain on your clothes, imagine what they’re doing to your skin.
Cleanse and freshen your skin as soon as you get home in the evening using our Cast Away face wash.
6. Get a proper skincare routine– and stick to it
Allocate yourself five minutes in both the morning and the evening to maintaining a proper skincare routine.
That means cleansing, toning and moisturising. In the evenings you should also apply an organic night cream to help your skin revitalise itself while you sleep. 7. Eat better, feel better, look better
We know it’s probably on your list of New Year’s resolutions already, but maintaining a good diet and exercise routine is essential to your skin’s health. Try to get at least 30 minutes of outdoor time everyday to give your skin a radiant, healthy glow.
