Do I need to use a Body Oil in winter?31/10/2014
Cleansers, Toners and moisturisers. Shampoos, conditioners, hair treatments and now body oil on top of body wash and body moisturiser. Do we really need them all?
The answer is YES! Winter is well under way and if you’re anything like me, you’ll have felt it in your skin already. Our skin is usually the first thing to suffer when the cold weather strikes. For many of us, winter’s crisp winds and horizontal rain means our skin suffers and starts looking and feeling somewhat like a desert: dry, cracked and dehydrated. Sound familiar? Sometimes we forget that it’s not just the sun that we need to protect our skin from, it’s the cold weather too.
Moisture, moisture and more moisture
We associate keeping our bodies moisturised and hydrated more in the summer when we’re wearing shorts and skirts and our legs are exposed to the sun, but it is actually in the winter that we need to pay them even more attention. When our skin is covered up with jeans, jumpers and our winter woolies it gets no access to the moisture in the air and because if this it dries out even more. On top of this, radiators, storage heaters and air conditioning are turned up to the max in winter and also absorb moisture from the air. Running in and out from the cold into a warm building and sudden changes in temperature also wreak havoc on our skin.
So, what is the solution?
Following one of the best summers we’ve seen in years, our skin is left reeling from excessive sun exposure and our bodies need a bit of TLC before being bundled back into dark and heavy clothing. The transition from bare legs to thick layers can wreak havoc on our skin so before you reach into the back of your wardrobe and pull out your winter woollies, take the time to prepare your under most layer and ease sensitive skin into the winter with a nourishing body oil.
VOYA have just launched the world’s first genuinely organic seaweed oil. This nourishing body oil which is certified by the Soil Association, takes its name from its primary ingredient – one of the most beautiful and mineral-rich strands of seaweed which is known as ‘the Angel’s Kiss from the Ocean’. This distinctly fragrant super-hydrating body oil helps to improve suppleness and elasticity whilst purifying and cleansing tired skin. The rich seaweed oil is enhanced with anti-oxidant rosehip oil that slows the signs of ageing, evening primrose oil which helps improve cell structure and skin elasticity, vitamin E and high oleic sunflower oil. It is also enriched with stimulating notes of lime and rejuvenating mandarin to boost skin renewal.
Tips for using Body Oil
Depending on how dry and parched your skin is, body oil can be used on it’s own or before a body moisturiser. Smooth sparingly and evenly onto the body using circular movements. Another way to introduce moisture to your skin is to add a few pumps of body oil to your bath. Parched skin is quick to absorb the beneficial oils as the heat of the bath opens the pores.
The added bonus – Any tan you were lucky enough to get over the summer will thank you for the extra hydration and reward you with a few extra months of glowing skin!
