This year welcomed the seventh annual Women Mean Business Conference & Awards held in Dublin, Ireland. This year’s theme was ‘Independent thinking’ and Kira Walton, founder of VOYA picked up the prestigious award for ‘Female Entrepreneur 2013’.
It was no doubt that Kira’s passion and love for VOYA set her aside from competitors, her role in the business is in product development and it is her one true passion and love. Kira says “Put simply, I love to make beautiful things”.
Kira’s desk is constantly covered with the diverse materials that VOYA need to make a product, “…a little chaotic!” she admits. Whether it is various luxurious fragrant oils or their own functional seaweed extracts, to beautiful sustainable textured boards or Italian glass jars. “It’s a creative persons unhealthy addiction, again you need to love this, as the way things feel, the tactile experience of touching paper, the fragrant aromas, the way light dances off green foil or a flint glass bottle. But this needs to be universal within your brand” Kira states, “your business cards, your carrier bags, everything”.
VOYA is a family-owned, Irish business, and produces one of the world’s first range of luxury certified organic seaweed-based products and therapies, with a full range of innovative treatments and supporting professional products. Within five years the Company have amassed a range of beauty products and therapies for hotel bedroom amenity, airline amenity, professional spa and retail sector. From a very modest start Voya export their products to 35 countries around the world and have continued to have triple/double digit growth from inception.
Kira said; “Women in business need to be better at promoting themselves and their successes. We are too critical of our own achievements’ and see self-promotion as arrogance.”
