Hydrate your skin in the winter months06/11/2015
We love the winter, but sometimes we’re just not so sure that the winter loves us. Our bodies are exhausted, we get run down with colds and flus and our skin is prone to looking dull and flaky.
We can’t make winter as loveable as the summer, but we certainly can help your skin regain its natural glow.
There are three essential steps you need to take to improve the condition of your skin. These steps are important all year round, but especially for the cold, drying winter. And luckily enough these steps are simple, quick and maintainable.
1. Stay hydrated all the time
First and foremost, you can’t expect to have purified and hydrated skin if you don’t hydrate it from within. That tip even rhymes, to make it even easier for you to remember! Aim to drink two litres of water every day. We know you’ve heard that one before but it really is true!
If you find two litres a day to be too many, try the newest celeb obsession: infused water. This is simply sliced up fruit and veg left to infuse/soak in a jug of water. Health experts also love this tip because it makes a great alternative to soft drinks and sugary juices, and the antioxidants and vitamins from the fruit will leak out into the water.
Different fruits are beneficial for different problems, but for hydration, try refreshing cucumber, lemon and lime. To ward off winter sniffles, try citrus fruits with ginger.
2. Invest in a quality humidifier
As much as organic face creams and drinking plenty of water are an essential part of your winter skincare routine, many of us overlook one essential: a humidifier. While it’s not the most attractive-sounding of items, a humidifier can work wonders for dry, patchy skin.
Leaving heaters running or reclining in front of the fire will dry your skin right out, so a humidifier works to add vapour back into the air to ensure that dry skin is banished from those long, winter nights.
3. Organic skin care routine with natural beauty products
The next step to beautiful, hydrated skin is using good quality organic skincare. Artificial chemicals and nasty ingredients found in most mainstream skincare might leave your skin feeling softened, but only artificially so. Incorporating natural cosmetics into your skin care routine, while including natural beauty products that contain seaweed, could see your skin benefitting in the long term. Only proper, natural ingredients can work along with your skin to really improve its condition.
If you don’t already have a skincare routine, there’s no time like the present to start. This will help you keep dryness at bay and hydrate the skin, as well as pump it full of anti-aging vitamins and minerals. Start by exfoliating two or three times a week using an exfoliating mask or our renowned Love a Scrub.
For gentler everyday exfoliation, you can also use an organic muslin facial cloth along with the Cast Away face wash. To deeply cleanse the skin, we also recommend that you use a rejuvenating mask like Get Glowing.
After cleansing, use a refreshing toner mist. A toner mist is a great product to keep in your handbag or on your desk as you can use it throughout the day over make-up to freshen up the skin. After toning, use a small amount of our deeply moisturising My Little Hero serum.
To really lock that in and add extra antioxidants, use a cream moisturiser on top. Me Time or our brand new Even Pure works amazingly for the daytime. For night, use a night cream to round your daily routine off.
Follow these three steps and your skin will be gorgeous all year round! We’re not going to the mention the “C-word” just yet, but don’t forget to keep your skin hydrated during the busy festive social calendar. Also, with gifting season in mind, don’t forget to preach what you’re practicing and the spread the love with some natural beauty products for those who mean the most to you.
