A Girls Night In: The Perfect Way to Relax and Unwind23/01/2014
by Kira Walton
It’s a Saturday evening in January. You have had a long week at work, and it is safe to say you are completely and utterly lost in the depths of January blues. You are dying to go out with the girls for a couple of glasses of wine, but you are determined that 2014 is the year that you will stick to your resolutions. You promised yourself that you would lay off the booze until St. Patricks Day.
Oh no! What’s a girl to do?
Why not host the perfect girls night in? You heard it here first…spa nights in are the new Saturday nights out.
Here is what you need:
1. A toasty fire
There is nothing quite like snuggling up beside an open crackling fire, while the walls and windows of your home are protecting you from the pouring rain and howling winds.
2. Nibbles – the healthy sort!
Chances are your friends are still following a low-carb diet to rid that dreaded Christmas bloat. This is your chance to be the Hostess with the Mostess by helping them keep those New Year resolutions:
– Fruit and raw vegetables with dips – we’re thinking apples, pineapple, strawberries, carrots, celery, and peppers with some lovely low-carb dips (Yummly has some great recipes!).
– Cheese (low fat if possible) platters are always good, with a few grapes, melon or berries thrown is for a pleasant sweet contrast.
– Smoked salmon and cream cheese on cucumber is a lovely treat, as is Prosciutto and asparagus.
– You could also leave out some crisp bread such as Ryvita, as well as some nuts for those who want an extra bit of crunch.
Ice-cold water with a slice of lemon or lime is the way to go here (after all, we know it’s great for the skin). If you are looking for something warm, how about some peppermint or fennel tea, which are great when detoxing!
These are both essential to create a relaxing atmosphere. Stick on the Spotify and let your guests choose the music.
When it comes to candles, look for something scented. We have a variety of candles that we think fit the bill. We love our original candles which diffuse the scent of refreshing zesty mandarins and floral patchouli and aromatic cloves. They are hand-made from beeswax & soya, and are non-carcinogenic, so you know that you are being kind to your guests lungs, as well as their bellies and their skin. Perfect bliss.
Now to the most important part…
Manicure time – every girl loves a good manicure. Stock up on lovely varnishes (that you’ll use again yourself), emery boards, and some luxury hand cream (we have a lovely one which is always handy to have!). Then get to work on those fingers and toes, while having the chats.
Face mask – feed your face. Taking time out to feed your face is essential – during the winter especially, when the cold weather can dry out your skin. A good quality face mask helps to brighten and purify your skin, and ensure you are looking as radiant as possible.
Now all you have to do is set a date…
