Are you searching for new clean eating tactics or the next detox to kick-start your 2017? The great news is, is that no matter what time of year it is, your body is already working hard to expel toxins from your body with the ‘detox organs’ – the liver, the kidneys and the lungs.
Here are six detox smoothies packed full of goodness that will help your system flush out impurities and help you start your New Year on the right foot.
Banana and Blueberry Smoothie
Along with regular exercise, a great way to support the lungs is to factor in some antioxidants into our diets in the form of fruits and vegetables. Blueberries are an easy and tasty source of antioxidants and thankfully, taste great.
- 250ml natural yogurt or low fat Greek yogurt
- 250ml fresh or frozen blueberries
- 500ml cups milk (or almond milk, if avoiding dairy)
- 1large banana, sliced
Mango and Wheatgrass Smoothie
Wheatgrass is one of nature’s amazing ingredients that contains vitamins A, B, C, E and K. It also provides the body with a source of amino acids and proteins. The only problem is that it doesn’t taste amazing on its own. Pair it with some sweet tasting fruits to help mask its inclusion.
- 200g mangos
- 200g pineapple
- 1 tablespoon of wheatgrass or wheatgrass powder
- 250ml coconut water
Lemon, Kale and Lime Smoothie
When you look at a list of fruits and foods that are supposedly good for your liver, it can be hard to spot an obvious combination of ingredients that will do the job but still taste nice. Here’s a lemon and lime combo that works well with kale.
- 1/2 cucumber
- 300g kale
- 1 lime, peeled
- 200g Swiss chard
- 1/2 lemon, peeled
Sneaky Spinach Smoothie
Glutathione is another protein that helps your body expel toxins. One of the great sources of this substance is spinach. Blend some spinach in with these fruits and you’ll get a bonus intake of fibre into your system.

- 200g pineapple
- 1 generous handful of spinach
- 300ml coconut milk from carton (not from a tin)
