Valentine’s Day Gift and Date Ideas11/02/2015
There’s a lot of pressure put on people to give the “best” Valentine’s Day gift, star gaze at the Eiffel Tower and come home dripping in jewels. We prefer for people to keep things a little more relaxed. We see time and time again from the guests who visit the VOYA Seaweed Baths that the best gift to each other is just to relax, have some fun and not stress yourself out about spending a fortune on jewellery.
Here are some ideas for a quirky, low-key V-Day and some unusual Valentine’s Day Gifts.
Love is an Adventure
An outdoor adventure centre could be a lot more romantic than you think.
Cupid’s bows in the form of archery, sailing the seven seas (in a kayak) for your love and even climbing the highest walls in the land, Rapunzel-style. You’ll have a great laugh, bond and even work up an appetite if you’d still like to go for a more traditional dinner date afterwards. Check out Extreme Sports for some great activities near you.
Dublin, be my Valentine
If you’re in Dublin on the 14th, why not show some love for our capital? Dublin City Council have organised a pretty great programme of events as part of #dublinbemyvalentine. Irish singer-songwriters Cathy Davey and Ham Sandwich will be performing in the Meeting House Square at 9pm. If you’re lucky enough to have some time before the gig starts, follow the Alternative Love Trail round the city. Take a moment to listen to the sounds of Guerilla Love Poetry on the bridges crossing the Liffey between 1-5pm and pop into the pop-up portrait team while they fill the streets of this Fair City with portraits of love.
Into the West
Head west for the Valentine’s weekend and treat yourselves to a relaxing treatment at our VOYA Seaweed Baths in Strandhill, Co. Sligo.
Our baths lie right on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Take in the amazing view while you enjoy a picnic and treat yourself to a cake or glass of wine at Shell’s Cafe.
Strandhill is one of Ireland’s best surfing beaches, and you can rent all you need just next door to us in the Strandhill Surf School. If surfing’s not your thing, enjoy a sea trail, take in a round of golf or do some meditation. The aim of the game in our lovely seaside village is to relax and revive. Strandhill is the ultimate chilled-out weekend destination. Promise!
Now for some Valentine’s Day gift ideas. For her, for him and for you.
Love in Print
How about a Valentine’s Day gift that will brighten up your beloved’s home or workspace? These amazing Irish-made prints from Jam Art Factory are quirky, hilarious and beautifully designed. Some are a bit mushier than others, so you’re bound to find something that’s just right for your relationship. Even if it is “You Wash and I’ll Dry”. Sure that’s only the sign of good teamwork!
Made with Love
We’d probably be more willing to slave away in the kitchen baking something nice for our beau if we had some beautiful kitchenware. This new Helen James range for Dunnes Stores is affordable, practical and just so beautiful. If you don’t get a few pieces as a gift, we reckon you should give it as the gift to yourself.
At-Home Spa Kit
For a treat you can both enjoy together at home, how about putting together a little spa night kit? This is a great option for those of you who want a chilled out night in, or if you can’t find a babysitter. You can adapt this care package to whatever budget you are on. We recommend throwing in our most indulgent customer favourites: our classic Lazy Days seaweed for an at-home seaweed bath. Some Angelicus Serratus Body Oil to keep your skin moisturised and nourished. This brand new Hair Gift Set also has everything you need for mermaid like tresses.
Or you could opt for firm favourite Maskerade, a great treatment to help you chill out while you improve the look and texture of your skin. Set the atmosphere with our beautifully fragranced The Original candle and sip on some Peppermint Pleasure.
If you really want to up the ante, buy two sets of white dressing gowns and slippers. You can even make your own spa music playlist. If you can’t make it to Strandhill, let Strandhill come to you!
The Modern Written Word
In this busy world we live in, the reality is that we spend more time on out tablets than we do reading a hardback. That doesn’t mean you have to miss out on some of the most profound words ever written about love.
This eBook, ‘Love’ edited by B.C. Aronson is the perfect gift to send to your other half. Filled with quotes and passages about the four letter word, this would surely cheer up somebody’s morning commute.
