The Lab is a space that was constructed using 7,968 wine, champagne, beer, and liquor bottles, and 280kg of crushed plastic for its back wall, designed to host sustainable workshop activities. Guests are introduced to artisanal craft-making skills like soap and candle making, while provoking thoughts about the ways in which we can live more sustainably – like breathing renewed life into materials after single or short-term use. Impressively, the resort also has a sustainable food production system with its Permaculture Garden. Representing The Datai’s continuous journey towards sustainability and self-sufficiency, The Garden is home to an innovative and sustainable zero-waste organic food production system that includes a closed-loop waste management process and traditional ingredients used by the spa in its authentic wellness rituals.
