SKINCARE AND BEAUTY TIPS FOR WOMEN OVER 50

Skincare for over 50's

In this blog VOYA have decided to concentrate on skincare and beauty tips for beautiful women aged 50 and over.  As always, the first and most important thing to do is rid us of the ridiculous pressure to be unrealistically ageless and focus on glowing with health and happiness. Never forget that confidence and natural beauty are always the most attractive quality in a person.

We all know the first line of defence against premature ageing is smart lifestyle choices.

Mind-set and perspectives aren’t the only factors of life that change as we grow older, our skin does too, and there are many reasons why. Unfortunately, our pasts may have caught up with us in terms of time spent in the sun, smoking, diet, or stress. Even past weight gain and loss can have an effect on our skin when we hit 50 and over. The older you get the slower your skin produces new cells, not to mention the hormonal changes and environmental factors you’ve been exposed to throughout your 30s and 40s.

Most women over 50 tend to have drier skin. In general, there is a greater need to use more hydrating and gentle skincare products. Fine lines, dark spots, dullness and unfortunately a loss of elasticity are all characteristics of skin over in 40s and 50s.

Gentle Cleansing

It’s important to gently cleanse your skin so as not to strip it of its natural lipid layer. Use certified organic and gentle products that gently cleanse yet also desensitise and hydrate your skin. Here’s a tip: switch to oil based EVERYTHING, (especially cleanser). Seaweed products help cover all your bases; they also up your antioxidant, mineral and oil intake.

Don’t use hot water on your face, as this also strips your skin of oil also, lukewarm water is best.

VOYA Suggests: Totally Balmy made with seaweed extracts nourishing ylang-ylang, bergamot, sweet almond rose oils and beeswax. The hard cleanser melts into an oil as it touches your face. VOYA’s anti-ageing balm is designed to deep-cleanse your skin and will leave your face feeling refreshed and rejuvenated the product comes with an organic Facial Muslin Cloth

Serums and Oils

For women over 40, serums and oils are the most important part of your skincare routine. To efficiently address dark spots and the skin’s lack of elasticity, a deep penetrating serum/oil is key. Serums are concentrated treatment formulas that help your moisturiser become more effective. Check out VOYA’s page specifically on the benefits of seaweed skincare & our range of serums.

Voya My Littler Hero Face Serum

VOYA suggests: My Little Hero VOYA’s organic seaweed face serum is an intense blend of organic oils, designed to give the skin a boost to its natural defences. These oils are naturally packed with powerful antioxidants, offering nourishment to improve radiance and bring life to dull skin.

TIP – Don’t forget the neck! When you get that bit older you must pay as much attention to moisturising the skin on your body as your face, so you’ll need an extra pump of My Littler Hero. Our necks have thinner skin and lack oil glands and need will need special attention especially when we reach 50.

Wear Sunscreen/ Consistent SPF

If you aren’t doing this already it’s a must. Incorporate SDF into your foundation or tinted moisturiser every day and use over factor 30 with both UVB and UVA protection, no matter the weather — rain or shine.

Check Your Skin Constantly

Keep an eye out for changes in your skin. Look out for moles or freckles changes, especially if you have fair skin. After all, skin cancer is one of the most common sorts of cancer in Ireland. Check out the Irish Cancer Society website to know exactly what to look for.

Hydrate, Get Enough Sleep and Eat Healthily

No matter what age you are, keep drinking your 2 litres a day of water religiously. What your skin really needs, for the most part, is a healthy lifestyle, water and a vitamin-packed, balanced diet. Go to bed early and prioritise getting a quality night sleep.

Makeup Tips

Less is more for women over 50, we’ve been advised that a common mistake is using too much eyeliner or powder concealer under your eyes which can be visible. Another great tip is to know that your eyebrows change as you get older, especially over 60. So, learn to accept this and avoid drawing on a shape that you had in your 20s!

Always use cream-based foundations, not powder, and don’t forget nice and natural colour lip liner to keep the shape of your lips solid!
