TIPS TO AVOID THINNING HAIR OR UNWANTED HAIR LOSS
Ignite Your Hair’s Health
Hair for most people is more than just a bundle of fibres, it’s an expression of your style and personality. Thinning or losing your hair can have an impact on your wellbeing and confidence. Most hair loss in males and females is linked to a hereditary condition that causes receding hairlines and, in some people, spot balding.
Long-term or short-term baldness is not just an issue for men, women can suffer from weakening hair also. This becomes noticeable when partings become larger, and the hair overall becomes a lot thinner. You lose about 50-100 strands of hair per day, so don’t worry if you find hair in your hairbrush or on your clothes that completely normal. If you notice a lot of hair loss or if it becomes much thinner in a relatively short period, check with your doctor as this can be a sign of underlying medical conditions, possible thyroid problems, or a hormone imbalance.
Sometimes a change of pill can dramatically affect your hair growth and a trip to your doctor can improve it. Another hidden medical problem that can cause the thinning hair on your head and thickening elsewhere is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) where your hormones are out of sync. This is when your body produces more (male hormones) androgen than it should, it can also lead to ovulation problems, acne, and weight gain, but sometimes thinning hair is the first and only obvious sign. Keep an eye out for these systems as the syndrome is becoming more common and its symptoms can eat away at your confidence.
Avoid Hair Loss or Thinning Hair
While we cannot fight genetics, we can start battling the factors that thin out your hair, lifestyle can play a huge part. For example, high-stress levels, or the polluted environment you are in, the chemical products we use in our hair or over styling with straighteners and curling wands can contribute.
Diet
Do not go on fad diets, if you lose weight in an unhealthy manner, you could lose hair as well as pounds. Your diet directly affects your skin and hair, your hair needs vitamin A and protein to look its best! The best food for healthy hair includes fish, eggs, and green vegetables. If you’re a vegetarian, ensure you increase your intake of chia seeds and quinoas. B12 is important for cell reproduction in your hair skin and nails. As well as being found in a lot of the foods already mentioned alternative sources include crab and oysters.

Studies have suggested that drinking, green tea can help, swap your usual cup of afternoon tea to green tea as its rich in antioxidants and that helps in boosting hair growth and preventing hair loss.
Hair Styles and Brushing
It’s not a myth, wearing your hair tied up tightly in ponytails and buns can irritate your scalp and hair follicles and contribute to your hair falling out! Let your hair down more, especially at night, never tie your hair up at night as it pulls out your hair follicles as you sleep.
Be aware that long-term use of these hairstyles can lead to permanent hair loss!
Do not roughly brush your hair as this weakens and breaks it. We often apply way too much force especially when very wet, towel dry before brushing use a wide-toothed comb or a Tangle Teezer to tackle knots to minimize damage.
Try not to use chemical leached products as with your skincare VOYA always will suggest the swap to organic products, read more about the benefits from our friends at the Soil Association!
A Tip from VOYA
Use our seaweed body oils as a warm oil mask/treatment for your hair! TRY Angelicus Serratus or Serenergise massage into your scalp and leave your hair wrapped up in a towel for several hours, then wash out with VOYA’s Silky by Nature organic shampoo, the results are a mermaid like tresses!’’ Gayle Kelly, International Business Development Manager
Why it works? Seaweed has a deep moisturising effect on hair and contains high levels of vitamins A, B, C, and E. These vitamins aid the production of natural oils which are an essential component of soft and shiny hair. Mineral-rich seaweed promotes scalp hydration and decreases the hair’s electrostatic charge making the hair more manageable and eliminating flyaways. This aquatic plant is also used as an effective hair loss solution due to its high levels of omega-3, iron, and zinc which promote hair growth.
Most shampoos include harmful chemicals that weaken the hair’s strength and ability to grow. By switching to an organic shampoo like SILKY BY NATURE you are no longer risking your hair reacting badly to unknown ingredients.” Kira Walton, Co. Founder
Cleanse your Mind and Environment
Another factor that causes thinning or hair loss is stress and anxiety. Emotional and physical stress can lead to hair loss. This can be short or long-term. Stress-related hair loss like ‘telogen effluvium’ can affect hair for 2-6 months post stressful events or times, there is also a type of stress-related hair loss called trichotillomania which is an impulse-control disorder.
Dealing with stress is never easy, at VOYA we encourage keeping active a healthy body is a healthy mind! Staying active can help with mental health in several different ways. You might be surprised to know that exercise can provide a natural energy boost and help improve your sleep.
